The meaning of the matter

First side: In the sense of the matter.

The request was mentioned as a meaning of the command, and it is true as it will be explained, God willing, and other meanings were also mentioned to it in exchange for the request, such as the thing, the action, the wondrous act, the accident, the purpose, and so on.

It is well-known that a group of these meanings such as the purpose is not from the meanings of the command, even if it is from the cognates of its meaning. Hence, two consecutive attempts took place: one of them was an attempt to return the meanings of the command other than the request to one meaning, and the other was an attempt to return the request and the other to one meaning.

As for the first attempt: it may be said: That one meaning is the thing, and the rest is a corroboration of it, so the action is one thing, the event is one thing, and so on; Therefore, the owner of the sufficiency stated: that the matter has two meanings: the request and the thing (1).

Al-Muhaqqiq al-Naini (may God have mercy on him) and al-Muhaqqiq al-Isfahani (may God have mercy on him) noted that the concept of a thing is its width.
